Infrastructure

The underlying technology required for business solutions.

Infrastructure is split into the hardware and software components which must work together to provide the base on top of which business applications are run. The network hardware includes items such as cables, servers, switches, firewalls, vpn devices, backup hardware, etc. The software includes items such as Windows Server software, Linux, Intranets, Databases, Backups, Authentication tools, etc. The combination of these items affect the quality of the solution which must be scalable, robust, usable and maintainable.

Infrastructure Selection and Deployment
  1. Functional Requirements - the business case
  2. Capacity Planning - sizing it for now and the future
  3. Risk vs redundancy vs costs
  4. Review implementation options and select product/vendor
  5. Complete product testing phase
  6. Rollout of solution
  7. On going operations (maintenance)

Within each stage project management is undertaken (tracking, sign-offs, reporting, etc.)

Example Projects

Below are some of the applications we have assisted companies in deploying:

images of infrastructure
  • Ibero Keyna - Windows Client-Server Environment read more...
Multiple site implementation of new Windows client-server solution. Deployed Windows Servers for authentication, file, print and database services. Client computers part of a centrally administrated network using active directory with roaming profiles, group policies and standardized desktop computers.
  • Verio Europe - Billing and Accounting Software read more...
Verio Europe, part of NTT, required a new pan European Billing and Accounting systems to support the consolidation of their business (multiple currencies, languages, etc.) Project included deployment of the software (links with data collection and provisioning; solutions for billing, accounting and reporting; integration between systems) and associated server environment.
  • Access Kenya - ISP Network Operations read more...
Rationalization of all infrastructure, focusing on network and server environments. The Cisco based network was redesigned using a standard ISP network structure (core and leaf node routers, wireless WAN, routing, satellite and fiber backbone).
  • MRD Global - Our Own Infrastructure read more...
Deployed VMware ESXi servers for base core (Linux servers - Web, MySQL, File, Print, DNS, SMTP, Webmail, VPN, Monitoring, Backups, PXE builds, etc.) Using iSCSI and local disk storage in addition to NFS and CIFS network file shares. On top of this structure we run financial apps, support sites, trouble ticketing, internal Wiki, Nagios and a number of custom web solutions. We built our internal network to match the Linux solutions we often suggest to clients. We also run a number of Windows servers and mostly use Windows 7 desktop computers.
